With several changes in employment law occurring on the 1st and 6th April 2024, it’s important to ask how prepared is your business for these updates?

1. Increase to national living wage | Effective 1st April 2024

✅ Review the hourly rate of staff in line with the National Living Wage increase.

2. Flexible working requests – Employment Relations (Flexible Working Bill) | Effective 6th April

💡 From day one, employee’s will be able to make a flexible working request and can make up to two requests every 12 months. Requests will need to be answered and the process concluded within two months.

3. Statutory Carers Leave | Effective 6th April

From day one, employee’s will be entitled to one working week of unpaid leave to care for a dependant with long-term care needs.

4. Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Act 2023 for pregnant employees | Effective 6th April

In a redundancy situation, pregnant employee’s (or those adopting) will have the right of first refusal for suitable alternative roles, from when they notify you of their pregnancy until 18 months after the child is born or adopted.
